All-seasons chambray

Chambray has been synonymous with workwear for couple of centuries now. A plain-weave cotton fabric made with a slub yarn, it is lighter than denim but equally durable. Chambray is comfortable to wear under the blazing sun, but does not wrinkle like linen. A working man’s fabric for the twenty first century.

We opted for a heavier fabric than your garden variety chambray for durability. This substantial fabric, with the interplay of the colored warp and the white weft threads, makes for a timeless diffusion of color and texture. Reno is finished with our special enzyme wash to give it a slightly a worn-in feel out of the box. You can rely on Reno to keep things cool and comfortable all day.

The devil is in the...

100% cotton chambray, enzyme washed

100% cotton chambray, enzyme washed

Chambray is a heritage fabric, workshirts virtually started with it. It is plain-weave cotton with a slubby yarn, usually woven with a colored warp and white weft. At 170 GSM, our fabric is more substantial than the usual ones in the market. But breathability of chambray makes it as comfortable as linen in summer while avoiding the wrinkles. Chambray comes close to oxford in straddling that fine line between casual and formal. Special enzyme washing gives Reno a softer, lived-in feel out of the box.

Denim and chambray are both fabrics that are often made from cotton and can appear quite similar, especially from a distance. However, they differ in their construction, weight, and typical usage. Here are some key distinctions:

Weave

  • Denim: Typically made using a twill weave, which results in a diagonal ribbing pattern on the surface of the fabric. One set of threads (the warp) is usually dyed, often in indigo, while the other set (the weft) remains white or undyed.
  • Chambray: Made using a plain weave, where the warp and weft threads alternate one over the other. Both sets of threads can be dyed, but chambray often has a colored warp and a white weft, which gives it a more muted, even color.

Weight

  • Denim: Generally heavier and more durable. It's designed for more robust use, which is why it's commonly used for jeans, jackets, and workwear.
  • Chambray: Lighter and softer, making it more breathable and comfortable for warmer weather. It's often used for casual shirts, dresses, and children's clothing.

Texture

  • Denim: Has a more textured, rugged feel due to the twill weave and heavier weight.
  • Chambray: Tends to be smoother and has a softer drape, making it more suitable for formal or semi-formal attire.

Appearance

  • Denim: Due to the twill weave and the contrast between the dyed warp and undyed weft, denim often appears to have more depth and texture.
  • Chambray: Appears more uniform in color and texture, and often has a slight sheen.

Versatility

  • Denim: More associated with casual, rugged wear, but it has also been adopted into more fashionable items.
  • Chambray: More versatile in terms of fashion, suitable for both casual and slightly more formal occasions.

Durability

  • Denim: Known for its durability and is often used in clothing that's intended to withstand wear and tear.
  • Chambray: Less durable than denim but still relatively strong for its weight.

While both fabrics have their own unique characteristics, they are sometimes used together in clothing items for a contrasting effect. Understanding these differences can help you choose the right material for your needs.

What if the garment doesn’t fit me?

We have a flat 90-day no-questions-asked return and remake policy, and we are dead serious about it. We want you to have a perfect fit, Period.

If you are not happy with your fit, we will happily remake/alter the garment again till you find it to your satisfaction.

We’re sure you’ll be pleased with the quality of our product. However, if it fails to meet your expectations, you can request a complete refund, no questions asked.

We make sure that you run no risk in trying us out.

How are you different from other custom/bespoke/tailoring setups?

Most of the clothes you wear day to day, such as jeans, khakis, jackets, denim shirts, etc., are not available custom-made for you. The industrial processes of construction and washing garments are unavailable to the local tailors.

Even brands that claim to be bespoke or custom will leave you wanting that “ready-to-wear” finish. Specialized stitches such as bar-tacking, chain-stitching, double-needle, and French seam are required to make sturdy, enduring garments only seen in industrial setups. A puckering on the stitches, softness of a brushed garment all needs industrial washers and machines.

Ready-to-wear garments, on the other hand, make you compromise on fit.

We offer personalized fit within the constraints of the business model. We allow you to customize your order as long as it does not compromise the style and make each garment specifically for you. You get the best of both worlds - an industrial finish of ready-to-wear with the personalized fit of made-to-measure. We will pull out all the stops to get the fit right on your first purchase of each type of garment. Once you are satisfied, next time will be breezy, as we store your custom measurements for future purchases.

How long does it take once I place an order?

We don’t hold up ready-made inventory, only the raw materials. We start making the product only once you place an order and your measurements are confirmed.

That means your perfect size & style are always in stock, and we don’t create waste.

Once our team has created and confirmed your measurements, shipping your order takes 7-8 working days.

How do I retrieve my measurements from my previous order?

Your measurements are safe with us. We will automatically retrieve your saved measurements if you use the email address as your original order.

You can also log in from the product page or from the menu to see your previous measurements listed.

Once you place the order, our Made to Measure specialists always contact you to confirm your measurements.
